  1. Oct 21, 2013 · RENAME is not for giving a different name to different insertions of the same Block, but only for changing the name of a definition of a Block, however many insertions of it there may be [including none]. There are routines around that will take a Block insertion and make it into a new Block definition with a different name, if that's what you're trying to do.

  2. Apr 2, 2018 · True -- it doesn't "fix" a wackily-named Block if that's your source object. It affects only the Block name within the current drawing of clipboard material brought in via PASTEBLOCK [everything on the clipboard collectively, whether that's one object or more], but not that of a Block object that already has a name, when brought in from another drawing that way -- that would just be an object ...

  3. Apr 14, 2023 · AutoCAD RENAME is an amazing command that allows you to rename various Items within your project. This can include items such as Text Styles, Layers, Dimension Styles, Views, and my favorite Blocks. This command is NOT available in the Ribbon. 4. Dec 8, 2021 · 2. It would be nice to be change the block property value of your block reference (if the block is already defined in your file, by a pull down like the layer property have it). 5. Aug 22, 2019 · My previous purpose works like the RENAME command, i.e. change the name of the block definition. 6. Mar 10, 2016 · Thanks for looking at this. I'm quite familiar with the RENAME command. However, we keep coming across blocks from outside sources that have an "*X" name.  In the attached drawing, if you list the (2) blocks, their name is *X, but if you check properties, their name is *X176.  If you doouble-click it, the block editor opens and asks for a block name to edit.  Many times there ...

  7. May 10, 2016 · I am not aware of anything that adds the $0$ suffix without also adding the block, layer, or stylename after the $0$. The only fix for binding as a bind is the expresstool blocktoxref followed by purge. Very old versions of AutoCAD will rename dynamic blocks with names that begin with *U# and will usually have problems with visibility states.

  9. Dec 9, 2010 · Yes, you can rename block reference inserted in drawing to a different block name, AS LONG AS there is a block defined in the drawing that has that name. The effect of renaming a block reference is that the block refernce with the orginal name would be erased from the drawing and a new block reference to the block definition with the targeting name would be then created with the same insertion ...

  10. Mar 31, 2023 · Save the new block definition. Now you'll have 2 block definitions with different names but with the same geometry/attributes. This will not work with dynamic blocks. You could do the same with two autocad drawings, in one you open the original block in the block editor, and with the other you open the new (empty) block in the block editor.
