Apr 30, 2022 · the_rolling_paper. • 2 yr. ago. 8gb is enough for normal use. Take my advice and buy a laptop with expandable memory slot just to be future proof. Most probably your Cpu will get outdated rather than the memory cuz windows does create a virtual memory using your HDD or SSD incase you run out of memory. 1.
Mar 8, 2021 · 8GB is more than enough for casual use: Safari with a dozen or so tabs, running only few lightweight apps at a time, such as Pages or other light productivity apps, Music, Messages, Photos, and so on. Spending extra for 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD was a no brainer for me though.
Jan 9, 2024 · Yes you can get away with 8GB of RAM while using a fast SSD for swap but SSD is significantly slower than RAM. DDR5 RAM has lower latency and much faster transfer speeds than any SSD. It's around 20GB/s for DDR5 RAM while a normal SSD is usually around 200-300MB/s. A Fast NVME SSD is closer to Around 2GB/s.
Jan 18, 2023 · Windows will also use more RAM if you have more RAM. So a PC with 8GB of RAM might have 2-4GB allocated to running Windows, a 16GB PC might have 6-8GB used, 32GB might have 8-12GB, etc. The higher the RAM usage, the better your PC will run overall. Reply reply. BitsAndBobs304.
Sep 29, 2023 · The differences are not because of different amount of RAM, but due to differently ranked RAM. If there is no rank stated in this test, it's clear the test was made by someone who has no idea about it. Differently ranked RAM can give you even 10-20% different fps (same amount, same frequency), depending on a game. 1. Reply.
Look 8gb is enough ultimately people tend to prefer 16gb so vehemently is because 16 is extremely comfortable for the price while 8gb can be easily pushed to it’s limits. Also most people who discuss Macs are heavy users who will need the RAM while the people who buy and use 8gb aren’t the ones to use reddit….

With this tablet, I do extensive note taking (about 500 megabytes of PDFs in samsung notes), Web browsing, spotify, robinhood, godawful amounts of youtube, plex, a book I'm trying to write, and a game called South Park cell phone destroyer, zalo, facebook and discord. and other various tasks.
Feb 28, 2023 · I agree 8GB is enough, but based on your usage you might want to consider the S23+. It doesn't sound like the camera is a big deal to you. I don't recall the ram options on the S23+ (the base is more than enough), but it does have both a 256 and 512GB storage option, and they were early on giving the 512GB option for free.
Jul 5, 2022 · No, you also need a CPU and motherboard and I/O devices and power supply, a screen and keyboard and cables to connect all. Internet would be handy for the setup too. BTW, my Windows 11 laptop (3 years old Lenovo yoga X1 3rd gen) has all this with 8 GB ram and works fine for me. The windows upgrade advisor will advise you.
For your needs 8GB would be totally sufficient. Personally I edit heavy 4K videos on my 8GB MBA M2, and my device is doing fine. Your previous MacBook runned slow, because of Intel chip. With M3 you would definitely feel the difference. However I can’t agree with this guy statement. 8GB is 8GB, 16GB is 16GB.
