A&W shows the sweet side of the spectrum and how flavors like vanilla can be added. Mug & Barq's show the "bite" end of the spectrum. Barq's has the caffeine element. It all comes down to one's taste. I prefer sweet root beers, so A&W is my preferred root beer among the mass produced sodas.
