He's definitely what is sometimes referred to as a Baritenor, but professionally (on his resume) he'd likely consider himself a Baritone. True tenors are a bit of a rarity, in order to really be considered a tenor you'd have to consistently tackle a C5 in chest voice, eg. Jeremy Jordan, Derek Klena, Titus Burgess.
Ben Platt only belts an A4 in words fail, but he does the C5 in falsetto! I’d agree he’s a tenor, but he has a really good low range people tend to ignore. He hits a solid G2 in For Forever which is pretty low for a tenor to hit. It’s typically a note reserved for baritones in theatre.
