Ultimately, that’s not a problem – in fact, it’s a good thing. Bridgerton doesn’t try to mimic Downton Abbey and is likely better for it.
It’s different from downton in that it isn’t historically accurate and there is a lot of sex and nudity. But it’s fun, and worth it alone just for the sets and costumes. DA is a historical drama (closest to historical fiction, if you read that. Bridgerton is straight historical romance and follows those conventions.

The show is nothing close to Downton Abbey except being within the same 100 years lol Reign even though based on Mary Queen of Scots is the same vibe as Bridgerton. Purely historical fantasy. I’m not saying Downton is purely historical fact but I do feel the sense of what life is like in the 20th century when I watch it.
