  1. It's not scary at all. This is not a horror game. Both tlou and dying light have some terrifying moments. Dead island has nothing that is comparable to the scary moments in those games. I personally hated playing dying light at night and I did find moments of tlou to be genuinely scary - none of that is here.

    Message in a Bottle

So you have washed back up on the shore in Santa Monica after dueling with Butcho the Clown at the end of the Pier. But you aren't the only thing that's washed up on this beach. Along the shoreline after concluding the Blood Drive Story Quest, you can find a Message in a Bottle.

Inside there is sadly no treasure map, but instead an S.O.S. from a conceited Los Angeles food critic unable to escape the zombie hordes here on the Pier. On this page of IGN's Dead Island 2 wiki guide, you can find a complete walkthrough of the Message in a Bottle Side Quest, including where to find each Message in a Bottle Quest Journal, and how to decipher the hints within to track down the final whereabouts of the food critic, Anthony R. Oliver.

You can find the Message in a Bottle Side Quest along the beach to the southeast of the Pier in Santa Monica. It won't be far from where you wake up on the beach the morning after your fight with Butcho the Clown.

Pick up the glass bottle buried in the sand to start the Message in a Bottle Side Quest. You will obtain the first Quest Journal, "Message in a Bottle". The note is an S.O.S. message from food critic, Anthony R. Oliver, in need of a little saving.

Your first objective is to go to the Bucket O' Fish on the Santa Monica Pier, where the food critic wrote this first message in a bottle. You will find it on the northern side of the pier, across from the police station and the Pier Grill.

The note specifically mentioned that the critic was hiding at the "bottom of the Bucket", so enter the restaurant and head down into the basement. Just be careful of traps along the way! It seems the critic was clever enough to cover his tracks.

As you make your way through the crawlspace beneath the Bucket O' Fish, you will eventually come to a section covered in electrified water. On the other side, the next Message in a Bottle Journal sits atop a crate. To reach it, climb over the crates on the left-hand side. From this angle, you can now throw a weapon at the electric box, cutting off the electricity.

Pick up the next note, "Review: Bucket O' Fish: One Star" from atop the crate.

You will have to crawl out from beneath the Bucket O' Fish and back up onto the Pier to reach your next destination, the Pier Grill. This restaurant is just across the way, a bit east from the Bucket O' Fish.

There are quite a few undead friends waiting for you outside the Pier Grill, and you will need to kill at the Riot Gear Walkers and Crusher zombies before you can gain access to the Pier Grill outside patio. Once your way is clear, you can find the critics next "review" sitting on a table in outdoor seating section, in the southwest corner.

This next note left behind by our pompous food critic has started to descend into madness. Their next mission is to find "something greasy, unpleasant, and most importantly FAST! The kind of meat whose origins nobody could possibly determine!"

What else could this be referring to other than the classic hot dog? Stop by the Hot Dog Shack, just a bit north of the Lifeguard HQ on the beach. On the eastern side of the shack, you find the man himself: A.R. Oliver. Seems as though our critic has let himself go a little bit.

  4. The game is surprisingly good looking, the gore effects are terribly great, most of the characters are likeable enough to play multiple characters and feel relatively differently when switching around. Each area has it's own unique feel and packed with detail with things to find.

  5. The Dead Island 2 revealed that day was nothing more than a pipedream back in 2011, the year the original game was released.
