Fairy Tail is the very bottom when it comes to shonen and there's simply ton of other shows you could watch that are significantly better. Hunter x Hunter, One Piece, Black Clover, FMA, JoJo are all shonens that will give you significantly more enjoyment.
While I feel that modern shounen (mha) is a bit faster-paced than let’s say, battles that span multiple episodes (think Naruto/DBZ), Fairy Tail is somewhere in the middle, with a mix of one-off fights and longer, more episodic fights.
From what I've heard and seen, many think that Fairy Tail is a very "mid" or even bad shounen. It is a basic shounen, almost like a starter, and in fact, this was my first shounen and action anime ever which drove me deeper into watching action animes.
