I enjoyed Mulholland Drive a lot but I've never heard anyone say this. I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece. Maybe you're not missing out on anything. Maybe you just didn't like the style of the film, which is a perfectly reasonable reaction to have as art is very subjective.
