  1. Gothic 1 and 2 were the best in my opinion, especially Gothic 2 with Expansion, a masterpiece. It's controls are a little dated, but nothing you can't overcome. I really liked Risen 1, 2 and 3 not so much. Elex combat system is so bad that it's unplayable for me. You should start with Risen 1.

  2. It's absolutely unlike any of the modern 3rd person RPG controls out there. Combat is tough, especially in the beginning when you get frustrated with the outlandish controls. But if you persist with it, it becomes second nature and you get to experience the wonderful combat gameplay and skill progression that Piranha Bytes created.

ELEX is a handcrafted action role-playing experience from the award-winning creators of the Gothic series, set in a brand new post-apocalyptic Science Fantasy universe that puts players into a huge seamless game world full of original characters, mutated creatures, deep moral choices and powerful action.

In ELEX, you join the war over a powerful resource that gives people great magic-like powers, but turns them into indifferent cold creatures. You decide if emotions and humaneness or cold synthetic logic will rule the world of Magalan.

•Vertical Exploration: Use the jetpack to reach any place in the game world

•Simulated game world where everything reacts to the players actions and provides for an authentic atmosphere

    • Gothic II: The Night of the Raven. August 22, 2003. MS Windows (PC) While this is merely an add-on to the base game, it feels like an entirely new experience.
    • Gothic II. October 28, 2003. MS Windows (PC) Possibly the best medieval European RPG of the early 2000s, and definitely the best Gothic game of the series.
    • Gothic. November 23, 2001. MS Windows (PC) Piranha Bytes released this game back in 2001, and it’s still excellent over 2 decades later.
    • Gothic 3. November 14, 2006. MS Windows (PC) This is the last Gothic in the series, and it takes you to a new continent that’s basically run by orcs.
  4. However, I'd recommend Gothic. The only real barrier is if you're okay with tank controls. Other than that, it's easily the best PB game, with the best sequel, and you can play it from beginning to end using just one hand. I know 'cause I did it.

  5. Dec 9, 2021 · Piranha Bytes’ games are quite popular among certain Western RPG fandoms, all thanks to the crude classic, Gothic, with which many a player back in the day discovered the genre. They only remaining trace of the former glory, however, is mostly the fact that the fandom is willing to shrug off more bugs and mistakes than people are generally willing to accept in AAA blockbusters .
