That's just not Silent Hill. The games are abstract psychological horror stories inspired by the likes of David Lynch, Francis Bacon, Stanley Kubrick, Dario Argento, and Jacob's Ladder. The film nails the aesthetics and music of the games, and it is the best video game movie (admittedly a low bar).
The visuals are good. The acting is fine. The script and direction are horrendously lackluster and take a generic horror movie plot that wouldn't even be good for a Sci fi special and fry it in Silent Hill batter. 3/10.

It's definitely worth a watch and i think i'll soon be rewatching it. With that said... I really don't think it's a good adaptation. It's the kind of loud and obnoxious strand of horror from 2000s American movie remakes as opposed to the Japanese atmospheric originals.

The film received generally negative reviews from critics upon release, although retrospective reviews have been more favorable. A sequel, titled Silent Hill: Revelation, was released in October 2012, while a third film, Return to Silent Hill, is in production, with Gans returning as writer-director.
