- Lavender Bay. Lavender Bay may not be reigning champion of liveability any longer, but locals can still claim to live in a top-performing suburb. Of course, this comes with some drawbacks; Surry Hills can be fairly noisy from Street noise, whereas Newtown is quite quiet. Newtown could arguably be described as "grimier" I think; Surry Hills is more pretty.
