      • Vancouver is generally a safe city with a relatively rare violent crime rate. However, like any urban area, it’s not entirely without risk, so it’s important to exercise typical precautions. Stick to well-lit areas at night, secure your belongings, and be aware of your surroundings.

  2. May 4, 2024 · What’s the best area to stay in Vancouver? Finding the best neighbourhood to stay in Vancouver is subjective. For tourists you should be selecting an area in close proximity to transit, near some top attractions like Stanley Park or Granville Island, and close enough to some of Vancouver’s great nature.

    • Downtown Core – where to stay in Vancouver for the first time. Staying in Downtown Vancouver is super convenient! I recommend it to everyone, notably first-time visitors!
    • West End – best neighborhood to stay in Vancouver on a budget. West End is located to the West of Downtown and is bordered by Stanley Park, the furthermost part of the Downtown Peninsula.
    • Gastown & Chinatown – nicest neighborhood in Vancouver for foodies. Even though Gastown and Chinatown are two different Vancouver neighborhoods, I combined them into a single recommendation as they’re small and near each other.
    • Yaletown – nicest part of Vancouver with an urban vibe. Yaletown is one of the trendiest areas in Vancouver and a great waterfront neighborhood if you’re interested in upscale accommodations, chic cafes, funky shops, and everything in between!
    • Where to Stay in Vancouver for First-Time Visitors: Yaletown. This upscale neighborhood just south of downtown is perfect for families, couples, and first-time visitors.

    • Where to Stay in Vancouver for Luxury: Coal Harbour. Located between Gastown and the West End, this waterfront district is one of the more upscale parts of town (there’s no budget accommodation here).
    • Where to Stay in Vancouver for Families: West End. Also bordering Stanley Park, the West End is a mostly quiet district away from the hustle and bustle, which is confined to its main commercial streets.
    • Downtown Vancouver: The Best Area to Stay for First Timers in Vancouver (+ Short Trips) Having grown up in Seattle, I (Matt) have spent a bit more time in Vancouver than Alysha.
    • Gastown: A Hip, Charming Area with Great Food and Drinks. After a few stints staying Downtown, we eventually moved on to staying in Gastown, which is just east of the Downtown core up along the waterfront.
    • The West End: Low Key, More Affordable, and Right on Stanley Park. Vancouver’s West End spans the entire western part of the Peninsula from Burrard out to the park, with its crown jewel – Stanley Park – jutting out into the water.
    • Yaletown: An Upscale and Modern Neighborhood on False Creek. Yaletown is where you’ll find the highest concentration of workout class providers (there’s even a Barry’s Bootcamp, so you know it’s bougie) and high rise apartment buildings that all kind of look the same (though we love the density).
  3. Oct 30, 2023 · Downtown is the overall best area to stay in Vancouver for first-time visitors due to its central location and proximity to major attractions. If you stay here, you will be located in the heart of the city, within easy access to many sights, retaurants, bars, and shops.
