I think it's quite good. The first thing I think to compare it to is Preacher, as they're both these big road trip epics where despite all the action and craziness the real point is the growth of the characters and their relationships.
Y the last man is probably my favorite comic series, though my opinion is heavily swayed by how amazing the ending was. It takes a really goofy, B-movie premise creates a great story with really interesting characters and a well-developed world.

With full respect to all the other great books that Vaughan has written, I think Y: The Last Man is his best work and is one of my all-time favorite comics.
