If you just got a new hammer in Hardmode (to smash altars with) then you can make the Pwnhammer into the Pwnagehammer, a rogue weapon (note: there's also a melee variant, so check the damage type while you're crafting it) which you'll need later on.
Melee, it's the most saturated class and has the best gear and the most fun progression, it's THE class for calamity. Melee- tanky and a power trip outside of high difficulties. Ranged- Massive DPS, best if you can dodge. Mage- versatility, weapons for every playstyle.
The calamity devs basically had to make two classes, what with the non existence of summoner in vanilla. while melee tends to suck early game, late game it's very satisfying, ranger is probably best from beginning-end, because most other classes struggle early game.

Mar 11, 2022 · Calamity mod is fantastic, and I can recommend it to anyone who like boss fights. The things I appreciated most from Journey's End after playing calamity is how good the people doing lighting at Re-Logic are.
