Poor saluting and bearing standards of senior military officers do not inspire confidence in their subordinates and the public. A sloppy salute is worse than not saluting at all. Favorite salute story was when a Chief walked out of a building and without looking at my (enlisted) rank went into the act of saluting solely cause I was wearing a flight suit. Half way through the salute they recognized their idiocy and went to retreat mode.
