Body painting is a form of body art where artwork is painted directly onto the human skin. Unlike tattoos and other forms of body art, body painting is temporary, lasting several hours or sometimes up to a few weeks (in the case of mehndi or "henna tattoos" about two weeks). Body painting that is limited to the face is known as face painting.

- Valie EXPORT. This photograph shows a woman tracing the cityscape of Vienna with her body by bending her back to mimic the curb’s curve. The image overlaps with a thick red line that follows the shape emphasized by the position, making the relationship between the city and the body prominent.
Nov 29, 2011 · The simple answer is because its effective. To think that bodypainting presented in a modern context is capable of functioning in the same revolutionary way as the radical art of the early modern artists is not to say that I paint bodies in order to be the next Picasso.
