Hula hut building also can be a fun activity for all children on Fun Days. Hula Hut Relay was action packed, challenging, and very cooperative, proving to be a huge success and has since become a staple game in my Cooperative Unit to this very day.
Building hula huts is a great team-building activity to help your kids work on cooperation and communication at the beginning of the year. The way that I play most of my games is by breaking them up into levels to “gamify” the lesson and make it more fun for kids.
- Hula Hut Relay. With this activity, teams are challenged to first build a hut made from 6 hula hoops, and then they must get their hole team to pass through the hut, one at a time, until everyone has made it through.
- All Aboard. In this challenge, a team is asked to get everyone inside the hula hoop with no hand or feet touching outside the circle. Use varying sizes of hula hoops to adjust to your group size or to make it more challenging.
- Hula Hut Tower. Similar to the hula hut challenge, the teams make a hula hut but see how high they can stack them. No one has to go through the huts, however.
- Hula Pass Through. Have your group stand in a circle holding hands. This challenge is for the team to pass the hula hoop once around the circle without anyone letting go.
Objective: To have the most hula huts standing after the time limit has expired. In the game there are 5 student positions: Scorer – shoots baskets to score hula hoops; Builder – builds hula huts once their team scores 6 hoops; Destroyer – tries to throw a ball and knock down the opposing teams huts
Teambuilding/Cooperative Activity. Hula Hut Relay. by JD Hughes @pe2themax. Equipment: 6 hula hoops per group, 1 cone per group, 2 blind folds per group. Set-up: Place piles of 6 hoops at one end of the playing area, students in groups of 4-6 (depending on how many hoops you have) and sitting in a line behind a cone while you give directions.
