   Teaching college level biology I’ve used Campbell. I really liked Principles of Life by Hillis. Raven and Johnson is a good text, too. If you would like a free college level pdf textbook, Rice University has started the “Openstax” free textbooks. They are good, too. They also have many other online science textbooks you can download free.
