It is much more of an architecture of learning where concepts need to be explored and a pathway of understanding needs to be blazed before a mathematical term can be attached to establish true meaning.

Knowing the precise statements of definitions of words and notation is absolutely critical to learning math effectively. Concepts facilitate learning and doing math but you can’t do math correctly unless you use the exact meaning of the words and notation needed.
We draw a distinction between static knowledge and dynamic knowing of mathematical vocabulary. Learning mathematics is far more than coming to know specialised vocabulary. Rather knowing how and when to use these words and phrases is fundamental to being able to communicate mathematical ideas and concepts.
