It is easy as long as you take advantage of OpenIV's "edit" mode. It creates a mod subdirectory that all the newly modded stuff goes into, so it doesn't bork your original game files at all. If you do happen to "break" your game with mods, all you have to do is remove the mod folder and you're back to vanilla again.
