Go to the game home, select Multiplayer, and click on “Show Friend Code.”. Take a picture/text your friend your code, and vice versa. Then select Multiplayer > Add Friend Code and add your friend’s code. This is what adds them to your No Man’s Sky friend’s list, which is separate from PlayStation, Steam, Xbox.
Make sure you both online (check your discovery page for "discovery services active" text). Ps5 player stays in game. Goes into options/network and find the right hand side of the menu where it offers to give you your NMS player ID #. PC player exits to menu, chooses multiplayer side, goes to bottom on menu where is says input NMS friend code.
