One Piece is my favorite anime (and manga) of all time. That being said. Certainly isn't for everyone though. Your concerns: If you're worried about length that much, I wouldn't bother. The manga just hit chapter 1000 and there is likely still 2-3 arcs left after the current one finishes. Avoiding spoilers is random and really up to you.
There are digital colored manga chapters that are very nice, watch an episode or two a day and pass the time reading the chapters. A whole lotta detail and foreshadowing, its worth the experience. 3. The fillers are good in One Piece, the only issue is when fillers aren't used and the story is stretched to the extreme ruining everything.
