  1. The Eleventh Hour is pretty much the perfect first episode for a Doctor, and hasn't really been matched. The Christmas Invasion, Deep Breath and The Woman Who Fell to Earth are all good, but The Eleventh Hour so solidly establishes its version of the Doctor that the next two episodes, which are usually to continue setting up the new personality, are mostly superfluous and forgettable.

  2. 11th Hour is the debut of Smith as The Doctor, Emilia, Rory and Stephen Moffat as the showrunner. Everyone's new and there's no canonical baggage to make a new viewer feel disadvantaged. Even though The Doctor is an old character, the questions/answers between Emelia and The Doctor make for good exposition.

  3. The Eleventh Hour is simply the easiest episode to get into the show. It's got good production value, definitely just LOOKS better than the RTD era. It's a faster pace, sets up a series long story arc, and introduces a new Doctor and companion, very funny, and gives you a nice taste of the show.
