With the new introductory sequence and a slight shift from academia to pragmatica (not sure if it's a word), it is in some way trying to emulate other top CS departments. A CS degree from UChicago would get you into FAANG just like other top CS department degrees -- if you work hard, obviously. I could even argue that our CS major is a hidden gem.

Arguably, CS is supposed to be theoretical anyway. If theory is not your primary interest, then you may want to consider a "Software Engineering" degree, which UofC doesn't offer (due to the obvious lack of an Engineering school). Ensure that you understand the differences before choosing a university.
