To add to the mystery, John is also named as Roger Spencer, Lord Mayor of London in 1594, and was probably born in Great Waldingfield.I have found reference here, to Alice Wyncoll, who was either the mother of John, or the second wife of Richardand therefore, John's step-mother.The reference to "children of my daughter Alice Spencer" who dies in 1544, makes it obvious that John had other siblings or half siblings, and was definitely born before 1544.Urquhart-9300:28, 30 O...Canonbury Tower passed to Elizabeth and his husband and still remains in the Compton family.https://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/place/219521-canonbury-towerhttps://www.british-history.ac.uk/survey-london/bk9/pp15-32Wikipedia, Worshipful Company of Clothworkers: Crest pic.The Manor of Canonbury: Impressionist by Art UK.Burial Monument, Sir John Spencer Family. Lord Mayor of London 1594-1595. His daughter eloped to marry Lord Compton and was banished, but later forgiven by Queen Elizabeth I.

Spencer strongly disapproved of the match, but Compton's influence at court enabled him to procure Spencer's imprisonment in the Fleet in March 1599 for ill-treating his daughter ( State Papers , Dom. 1598–1601, p. 169).
