There are three clear national trends: [1] standardized tests today place less emphasis on subject-specific knowledge; [2] standardized tests are not given the same value as they once were; [3] standardized tests are administered less often and at fewer grade levels.

In many provinces, standardized tests (other than those written in Grade 12) do not count toward students’ final grades.
