Definitely. Servers like Hypixel are more alive than ever, with a wide range of minigames on the server. Plus, playing alone/playing on normal worlds will have much more content to come (caves and cliffs), as the updates get bigger and bigger.
Though I'd have to say Bedrock is the best version to play with friends since it's the most easiest to join other players unlike Java if you're playing for the first time. If you are looking to play minigames in Minecraft more, I'd suggest Java.
