Read the books first. If you watch the movies first, you’re just seeing all the main plot points summarized. Then when you go to read the books, you already know what’s going to happen. Better to experience the great detail of the books before knowing the spoilers.

It's not a crime to not read the books, but if you love the Harry Potter world, you'll love them! There's so much that the movies don't include. If reading them is a challenge (I get it, I struggle to read nowadays) then you could listen to them in audiobook form.
warning: if you haven't read the books, there's probably spoilers here for you. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. I always love to look back and see very important plot elements introduced a few books before they become important.

Jun 25, 2017 · Second, if you're just starting out with "Harry Potter" and you'd rather watch the movies over reading the books, that's fine! In fact, if you want to appreciate the movies for their qualities as films first-and-foremost, that will probably be easier if you haven't read the books.
