- Alejandro Amenabar’s The Others wisely avoids unnecessary jump scares and outlandish special effects, instead relying on a nicely paced story that steadily ratchets up the suspense, an effective score, some wildly creepy sets, excellent cinematography from Javier Aguirresarobe, and subdued but effective performances from the cast.
