Located in the south-central region of North Carolina, the county is bordered by Richmond, Stanly, and Union counties, and Chesterfield County, SC. The county seat is Wadesboro. Ansonville was first settled in 1844. The settlement became Ansonville in 1857 and was incorporated in 1885.
Anson County is mostly rural, and despite being in the Piedmont region, its geography is rather flat. The county can be considered a sanctuary for nature lovers though, as the Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge is located just south of Ansonville.
