Asturian (/ æˈstʊəriən /; asturianu [astuˈɾjanʊ]) [4][5] is a West Iberian Romance language spoken in the Principality of Asturias, Spain. [6] Asturian is part of a wider linguistic group, the Asturleonese languages. The number of speakers is estimated at 100,000 (native) and 450,000 (second language). [7]

1. K (ka), J (jota) and W (uve doble) are not part of the alphabet, and are only used in loanwards 2. In eastern Asturian place names the letter ḥ [h/x] is used in place name and word beginning with f. It is also written h. 3. ḷḷ is used in some dialects for /t͡s/, /ɖʐ/, /ɖ/ and /ʈʂ/.
