If the Shads were basically Cliff was the Elvis and Hank Marvin the Buddy Holly, then Jet Harris was definitely, most definitely the James Dean. But the better answer is that he was a one in a million guy who blew it.

Terence "Jet" Harris MBE (6 July 1939 – 18 March 2011) was an English rock and roll musician. He was an original member of Cliff Richard 's backing band the Shadows , serving as the bass guitarist from the group's inception until April 1962, after which he had success as a soloist and as a duo with that band's drummer Tony Meehan .
With his mean and moody look, Jet Harris was the James Dean of British rock ‘n’ roll. But he was much more than a pretty face. In the late 1950s and early 60s, Jet’s bass work provided the solid backbone to a string of Cliff Richard hits during the three years before Cliff became a sugar-coated family entertainer.
