General Charles Scott, for whom Scott County, Indiana, was named, was born in Powhatan County, Virginia, in 1739, son of Samuel and Jane Scott. He served in the French and Indian War, and was present at Braddock’s defeat in 1755. In 1762 he married Frantes Howard Swee- ney.
