The flowing lava, best if you throw it in there. Advice from someone who doesn't like birch. :) Sandstone, yellow concrete, terracotta. dark oak. Sandstone and sand. Probably some stripped birch logs. White blocks too, quartz, white terracotta, light grey concrete and white concrete. Maybe smooth stone in small amounts.

Here's my favourites: *Granite floor, one layer of cobble and spruce planks. *quartz and spruce planks. *acacia planks, jungle planks, stone slabs and bricks. *quartz, diorite and polished diorite, and sea lanterns. *sandstone & stone slab floor, stone slab ceiling, packed ice, and either stone bricks or iron blocks for pillars and walls.
For building, I like to put birch wood, oak leaves, sandstone, sandstone slabs, and jack-o-lanterns together. Looks really clean and nice. For building an epic landscape in a map, I would use (I know it's a weird combination) soul sand, obsidian, and water. For some reason, those blocks just look really good together to me.

Dark oak + white wool (great for cute and quaint builds) Quartz + spruce + blue glass (or anything blue really) Sandstone + anything green (including vines, leaves, etc) Red clay + orange clay + nether brick fence (see my 2nd lol) Jungle + stone brick. Prismarine (all kinds) + stone slabs + mossy cobble/stone.
