Sometimes, the hardest part about creating — whether it's a photo album, a poem, or a painting — is the white space of an empty page. Figuring out how to organize photo albums and having ideas for individual page layouts within them provides a formula and starting point that take your first-step fear away.
- Start with Autofill
- Choose & Change Layouts
- Hide & Sort Photos
- A Note on Editing
If all those blank pages seem a little overwhelming, that's where "autofill" can come in handy. Just click the button to have the editor take a first pass at filling your pages. It's easy to change the order of pages or placement of photos once they're all in the book.
When you're playing with layouts, there are a few tried-and-true tips that translate well to just about any photo book. We'll dive into some of those in the next step! We also have plenty of photo book layout ideasif you're in need of inspiration.
With up to 300 photos in a given gallery, it can be a little tough to sort through what you have and haven't used already. Try clicking the "hide used photos" box to keep things clean and easy to peruse. Sorting your photos by date taken, date uploaded to gallery, and name can also help order images in ways that make them easier to work with.
If you haven't already edited your photos in another program, try bumping up the brightness just a touch to bring out their best in print. Your photos may print a little darker in your book than they look on the screen, so this simple step can help images translate to print more seamlessly. Aug 14, 2024 · Creating a photo album involves gathering necessary materials, selecting and organising photos, choosing an album, and carefully assembling the album. Adding personal touches like captions, anecdotes, or small mementoes like tickets and postcards can enhance the storytelling aspect of your album.
- Gather Your Photos. This is one of the most important parts of creating a photo book. You want your book to have a certain feel to it and be consistent throughout.
- Choose the Right Printer. This can be one of the most overwhelming parts of creating a photo book. With one Google search comes hundreds of offerings from numerous companies, some of which you've heard of, others you never knew existed.
- Choose the Book Size, Cover, and Page Type. This can be a little overwhelming for those just getting started, so let's walk through them. We'll be covering the most common options from Blurb, but many printers will provide you with similar offerings.
- Use the Right Software. There are many software options for designing your photo book, but which you choose highly depends on your skill level in graphic design.
- Choose an interesting topic. Traditional topics such as vacations, birthday parties or wedding photo books are always popular, but remember, you are not limited by them!
- Get familiar with the MILK Design Studio. The MILK Design Studio allows for lots of different possibilities, and it's a great idea to familiarize yourself with the options before you start creating.
- Text matters. Take advantage of the designer templates that include text boxes so you can add short comments or even long blocks of text. It may be just a reminder of when and where the photo was taken or a story related to the shot, or just your thoughts, a kind of "notes in the margin".
- Image quality is key. It’s better to spend the time editing your photos before printing them out rather than feeling disappointed because of the result.
When choosing images for your album, there are a few easy ways to narrow your selection to those that will print optimally and add the most value. Check your resolution. If you’re choosing between two similar photos, and one has higher resolution, this can be a simple tie-breaker.
