Streaming-wise: OBS is smart about only surfacing encoder options that your chosen streaming service will support. Twitch for example you'll ONLY ever see the H264 option. Youtube should show the HEVC option as well.

AVC/H.264 and HEVC/H.265 are codecs (so are VP9, AV1, etc.). x264 is a software encoder (encoding on the CPU) whereas NVENC (nVidia), QSV (Intel) and VCE/AMF (AMD) are (dedicated) hardware encoders (encoding on the GPU).
Jan 11, 2024 · The Base (Canvas) Resolution is for your game, so set this to whatever resolution you’re playing the game at. The Output (Scaled) Resolution determines your stream's resolution. If you want a 720p stream, set it at 1280x720. If you want a 1080p stream, set it at 1920x1080.
