Jul 19, 2024 · The oxygen sensor, which is an important part of current cars, checks how much oxygen is in the exhaust gases. It helps make sure the right amount of fuel and air is in the engine, saves fuel, lowers pollution, and makes the engine run better and last longer. How an Oxygen Sensor works:
An oxygen sensor is an electronic device that measures the proportion of oxygen in the exhaust gasses exiting an engine. Located in the exhaust system, it provides real-time data to the vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU), which uses this information to adjust the air-fuel mixture for optimal combustion.
An oxygen sensor (aka O2 sensor or lambda sensor) is designed to detect the amount of oxygen in the exhaust. It does this up to 7 times per second. It compares the amount of oxygen in the exhaust fumes to the amount of oxygen outside the vehicle.
While this may sound like a fairly modest task, the O2 sensor is actually one of the most important sensors on any vehicle, responsible for keeping the right balance between air and fuel for optimal emissions. Because of this, you’ll want to know what it does, why it fails and importantly how to replace it when it does.
Nov 11, 2024 · An oxygen sensor (O2) is a vital part of the fuel and emission-control system. It measures the difference in oxygen in the air on the outside of and inside the exhaust. It reports its finding to the ECU to calculate the exact amount of fuel the injector should pulse into the cylinder to create combustion.
