Mar 23, 2023 · The theme for this year’s report is “Here for You”, as 2022 offered people more opportunities to connect with the Court. For me, the highlight was the Court’s week-long visit to Quebec City in September. The Bench heard cases outside Ottawa for the second time in its 147-year history.
That is up 1% from 2020. The lighter caseload is directly linked to widespread court closures across Canada in 2020. The Court received 21 appeals as of right in 2021 and no reference questions. Judges heard 58 appeals and rendered 59 judgments.
Jan 24, 2023 · In 2022, the Court rendered an impressive 54 decisions—a strikingly similar number to those issued in 2021. For the second consecutive year, we witnessed a historic transition in our roster of SCC justices. We bid farewell to Justice Michael J. Moldaver, who retired from the Bench after eleven years of devoted service.
