Fraudsters take advantage of our desire to find good dealsand the excitement we feel when we get something special for cheap. But – you’ve heard it before but it bears repeating – if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
As some of the statistics we mentioned above indicate, people fall for scams all the time. People of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds are all susceptible to these crimes. But as unfortunate as these cases are, we can learn from them and take steps to protect ourselves from falling victim to similar schemes.
Don’t panic, this isn’t the first time it’s happened (and it won’t be the last). If you do suspect that you’re the victim of a scam artist, there are a few steps you can take to report and hopefully fix the situation.

Sometimes the situation involves fake websites or less-than-honest 3rd party sellers, and other times there might be an overabundance of fake reviews that jack up the product rating.
How can you tell if someone is scamming you online?
It depends on the situation, but identifying an online scammer can be tricky. If you receive unsolicited text, emails, or other communication that contains a link, the sender is likely trying to scam you. 3rd party sellers often try scamming their online shoppers too, so watch out for listings with grammar mistakes, spelling errors, and fuzzy images.
