The biggest problem is that you always have a problem of one side is a lot more popular, usually the one that accommodates the least amount of people and/or has the most unique gameplay. Evolved had the problem of everyone loving the monster gameplay but no one really wanting to play as the humans.
Why is Asymmetric Multiplayer uncommon? What are some of the problems faced by games of this genre? How could they be fixed? Do you know of any games that do it really well/poorly?
If I were to guess, I'd peg it to typical multiplayer problems being exaggerated and balancing issues. For a lot of multiplayer games, you can generally get by with little communication between players but I don't that works in an asymmetrical setting.
