The very obvious mid-bass bloat has always been the dealbreaker for me with the original Empyrean and to a slightly lesser degree, the Empyrean Elite.

The Duo imparts a more pronounced bass and adds a bit of richness through the midrange while the angled earpads reduce the lows to something closer to neutrality, though put a little more emphasis on the way these headphones deliver the highs.

Lush, rich, smooth midrange. Great dynamics in the treble without an ounce of sibilance. Satisfying detail and accurate imaging.
