What can I do with a Transitional Certificate? The Transitional Certificate enables Ontario teacher candidates to gain experience as Ontario Certified Teacher while completing their initial teacher education program.
All teachers must be an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers to teach in Ontario's publicly funded schools. OCTs pay an annual membership fee to maintain their membership and certification.

To be certified, teachers must: have completed a minimum three-year postsecondary degree from an acceptable postsecondary institution. have successfully completed a four semester teacher education program. apply to the College for certification and pay the annual membership and registration fees.
The Transitional Certificate enables Ontario teacher candidates to gain experience as Ontario Certified Teacher while completing their initial teacher education program. Up to 20 days of this teaching experience may be used to satisfy practicum requirements.
