Aug 7, 2013 · The proximate causes of variance in IQ are the ‘cognitively stimulating experiences’ that the individual is provided with and seeks for him/herself. Early in life, those experiences are primarily imposed (or not imposed) on the individual and that shows up as shared environmental influence.

The proportions of IQ variance attributable to genes and environment vary nonlinearly with SES. The authors’ model suggests that in impoverished families, 60% of the variance in IQ is accounted for by the shared environment, and the contribution of genes is close to zero; in affluent families, the result is almost exactly the reverse.
The causes of these associations and their relative contribution to social mobility is much disputed. 96 Education and social class are also well-established associates of health inequalities, including all-cause mortality. 30 However, intelligence is a new player in health; its associations with many health and illness outcomes and all-cause and several specific causes of mortality have been ...
However, the study indicated that the effects of shared family environment on IQ were generally greater in low-SES families than in high-SES families, resulting in greater variance in IQ in low-SES families. The authors noted that previous research had produced inconsistent results on whether or not SES moderates the heritability of IQ.
Sep 16, 2014 · Therefore, some of the variance in the social scientists’ key environmental variables can be found in DNA variation, some of which is shared with the DNA variation that causes some of people’s ...

For example, the first study of this sort, mentioned above 35, included a total of 81 GPS from well-powered GWAS of cognitive, medical and anthropometric traits available in LD Hub 92 that together predicted 4.8% of the variance in intelligence. Although EA2, IQ and income GPS drove most of the predictive power of this multiple-GPS analysis ...
