The CBC’s CBEFT began broadcasting on July 10 – on channel 78. The official launch date was July 16 – so the station was on the air in time for the following day’s opening ceremonies of the Montreal Olympic games. In the beginning, CBEFT was a rebroadcast transmitter for CBFT Montreal (French – Radio-Canada).
CBC did convert CBEFT's English language sister station CBET to digital, as it is an originating station. [ 3 ] [ 6 ] On June 8, 2012, local Windsor NDP MPs Brian Masse and Joe Comartin asked CBC president Hubert Lacroix to reconsider shutting down CBEFT, recommending instead to install digital multiplexing equipment and carry CBEFT on a digital subchannel of sister station CBET-DT. [ 7 ]

CBEFT formerly an originating station on UHF 78, and later channel 54, that was listed in TV guides in metro Detroit. Station moved to analog channel 35 in 2011, but was decommissioned by CBC and went off the air in July, 2012.
