While he did care for Harry, he didn't spoon feed Harry nor did he tell him everything he needed to know. He let Harry fend for himself, find his own way into and out of troubles and discover his true self - which in turn helped him find true courage during the battle.
After all, Dumbledore’s behavior in the 5th film is pretty much unchanged from the book; he gives Harry the cold shoulder for the full duration. The difference is his explanation for why he did this: the book’s explanation is good, the film’s explanation is not.

When Harry asks Dumbledore in the Philosopher's Stone how he knew that Harry was coming to see the Mirror of Erised, he replies: "How did you know--?" "I don't need a cloak to become invisible," said Dumbledore gently.
Dumbledore also reveals that it was he who left the invisibility cloak for Harry and explains that there was enmity between Snape and Harry’s father, much like the enmity between Malfoy and Harry.
