Mar 5, 2024 · Block: An attempt by a player or players to interrupt a hit or spiked ball before, as, or just after it crosses the net by jumping at the net with arms in the air. Bump: A technique of playing the ball using the forearms, with the hands together, to hit the ball. It can be used for passing or setting.

Hybrid : A term describing serves in which the ball is hit with a spin not reflected in the toss, usually jumping. For example, a toss with topspin struck in a manner to induce float, or no spin, on the ball. This is often used in combination with another serve of the same toss, but a different spin.
- Ace: A serve that's not returned by the receiving team. Example: Anna's serve was so powerful that she scored an ace.
- Antenna: Vertical rods attached to the net, indicating out-of-bounds. Example: The spike was out because it hit the antenna.
- Approach: The steps a hitter takes before jumping and attacking the ball. Example: A good approach helps in delivering a strong spike.
- Back Row Attack: A hit from behind the 3-meter line by a back-row player. Example: Their setter surprised us with a back-row attack.

ATTACK: The act of actually approaching the volleyball and hitting it, in order to gain a point. ATTACKER: The person who attacks the ball. Also known as the HITTER or the SPIKER. ATTACK LINE: Also known as the ’10 foot line’, it is 3 meters away from the net and is present on both sides of the court.
