Romans 8:6
- To be carnally minded (R.V. “the mind of the flesh”) is death; but to be spiritually minded (R.V. “the mind of the spirit”) is life and peace.— Romans 8:6. This is one of St. Paul’s keen contrasts. It is expressed in language that is difficult to translate.

Oct 15, 2024 · To be carnally, or fleshly, minded means to have a “mind governed by the flesh” (Romans 8:6), living to please one’s fleshly desires. A carnally minded person seeks to fulfill the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16).
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Paul has written that a non-Christian's mind is set on the things of the flesh. That means his or her thoughts are focused on meeting sinful, selfish wants and needs and nothing else. This way of thinking, like all sin, leads to death.
