This occurs when a batter hits a ground ball softly or moderately that manages to find its way between infielders and into the outfield.
A seeing eye single is a seemingly easy to field, not hit well ball, that usually ends up just out of reach of one, or more often two fielders. The three normal locations of these hits are between the shortstop and third baseman, between the second baseman and first baseman, and up the middle between the shortstop and second baseman.
It allows the batter to see the pitched ball against a dark and uncluttered background, partly for his safety. It is comparable to the sight screen in cricket.
