- The Community Development Branch of Municipal Relations works to strengthen community planning and development in neighborhoods, communities and regions across Manitoba by co‑ordinating delivery of programs and technical assistance to increase municipal and organizational capacity, assisting municipalities and community organizations in undertaking projects that provide long-term benefits to their communities and encouraging regional approaches.

A Community Development Corporation (CDC) is a company incorporated under Part XXI (21) of The Corporations Act of the Province of Manitoba (See Appendix A). The primary role of a CDC is to promote its community in persistence and hard work in order to successfully achieve their community goals.
The Community Planning branch has staff located in 8 regional offices throughout the Province to provide professional and technical services to municipalities and planning districts outside Winnipeg and to northern communities.
It involves managing land uses and deciding where best to develop homes, parks, agriculture and industry, and where things should be left in their natural state. Land use planning is an essential part of building healthy, prosperous and sustainable communities.
Approved applicants provide a variety of community development projects that improve neighbourhoods, promote community involvement and help develop young leaders.
