Whether you have missed a loan payment or not, you can: log in to your National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) account to access tools to help you find a repayment plan contact the NSLSC to discuss options to help you get back on track if you have student loans from Alberta, Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island, contact your province.
When you miss 9 months of payments, the federal part of your loan is sent to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for collection. Once in collection, you are no longer able to get student aid. To be able to get student aid again, you must bring your loan up to date.
Contact the CRA to make a payment arrangement and bring your loan up to date.
If you file for bankruptcy within 7 years of finishing your studies, your Canada Student Loan won't be cancelled. You will have to continue paying it back.

When a Student Loan is Considered to be Delinquent or in Default. Should at any time you fall behind in your student loan payments your account will be considered delinquent. If your account is overdue for 150 days for a provincial loan or 270 days for a national loan you will be considered to be in default and collection activities will ensue.
It isn't too late to apply for the fall and winter terms because they are one study period covered by the 2023-24 application. The latest you can apply for full-time student loans is 6 weeks before your study program ends as long you have provided all the required documentation.
